Training with a PT

Cost: free 30-minute consultation, then a $175 Movement Screen, then $110 to $130 per session depending on the package you choose. Full pricing table below.

What this is

One-on-one training sessions led by a physical therapist instead of a general personal trainer. Same hour, same equipment, different lens. I am reading how your joints load, where you compensate, and what your tissue can actually tolerate right now, and I am building the program around that rather than around a generic template.

This is not physical therapy treatment and it is not billed as such. It is coached, progressive training designed by someone who understands the injury you are worried about.

Who this is for

Three kinds of people, and you probably recognize yourself in one of them.

  • You were cleared from physical therapy but have no plan. Your knee is fine walking around, your therapist said you graduated, and now you are standing in a gym with no idea how hard to push or what is safe. Discharge is not the same as ready.
  • You have a nagging injury that never fully went away. The shoulder that aches after every push day. The low back that tightens up on hike four. It is not bad enough to stop you, so you have worked around it for a year and it has quietly shaped what you avoid.
  • You just want qualified guidance. Nothing is wrong. You are training on your own, you want to keep it that way, and you would rather have someone with a clinical background check your programming and your mechanics before something breaks.

I also work with general sports performance for athletes and active adults who want to get measurably stronger and more durable through a season.

Where sessions happen

I come to you. Sessions take place at your own gym, your apartment or building fitness center, or your home. If you train at home with limited equipment, that is fine, I will build the program around what you actually have rather than what a commercial gym has.

The initial consultation can be in person or virtual, whichever is easier for you.

I serve Parker and the surrounding south Denver metro area. If you are outside that radius, reach out anyway and we will figure out whether remote coaching makes more sense.

What to expect, step by step

  • Step 1: Free 30-minute consultation. In person or virtual. We talk through your history, your injury, your training background, and your goals. No charge, no obligation, no assessment yet. You leave knowing whether this is the right fit.
  • Step 2: Movement Screen and Training Strategy Session, 75 minutes, $175. This is the real starting point. Full-body movement screen, strength and mobility testing, and a discussion of what the findings mean. You leave with a written 8-week training roadmap that is yours to keep whether or not you book another session with me.
  • Step 3: Ongoing 1-on-1 sessions, 60 minutes each. Coached training against that roadmap. We adjust as your capacity changes, and I keep testing so progress is measured rather than assumed.
  • Step 4: Reassessment every 8 weeks. We repeat the key tests from the screen, compare numbers, and write the next block. Included at no extra cost inside any active package or monthly plan.

What is included

  • A full 60 minutes of one-on-one time. Not shared, not overlapping with another client.
  • A written program you can access between sessions, with video demonstrations for anything unfamiliar.
  • Hands-on work when it is warranted: soft tissue, joint mobilization, and cueing.
  • Message access between sessions for questions about form, soreness, or substitutions.
  • Progress tracking on the specific tests from your initial screen, so improvement is documented in numbers.
  • Reassessment and a rewritten program block every 8 weeks.
  • Coordination with your surgeon, physician, or referring therapist if you want it.

What is not included: this is not billed to insurance, and I do not provide formal physical therapy documentation or plan-of-care notes for a training package. If you need that, you want an evaluation instead.

Monthly plans are month to month. Cancel any time with 7 days notice before your next billing date.

Which one should you pick? If you are coming off an injury or a surgery, start with the 8-session Build so we get a full 8-week block of supervised work in. If you are an experienced lifter who mostly needs oversight, Remote Coaching or Hybrid is usually the better value. If you are unsure, the free consultation is where we sort that out.

Scheduling and cancellation policy

  • Sessions are scheduled directly with me, typically weekday afternoons, evenings, or weekends.
  • Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice at no charge.
  • Less than 24 hours notice, or a no-show, uses the session or is billed at the single-session rate.
  • Prepaid packages are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.
  • Packages are non-refundable once started, but unused sessions can be transferred to another service of equal value.

Frequently asked questions

Is this physical therapy?

No, and the distinction matters. Physical therapy treats an active injury or impairment and comes with formal documentation and a plan of care. Training with a PT is coached, progressive training built by a clinician. If during the screen I find something that needs actual treatment first, I will tell you and we will start with an evaluation instead.

Why is this more expensive than a personal trainer?

Because you are paying for the clinical reasoning, not just the hour. A Doctor of Physical Therapy who also holds a CSCS can tell the difference between pain that means stop and pain that means keep going, can build around a surgical repair without guessing, and can recognize when your shoulder problem is actually coming from your mid back. General personal training in Denver runs $80 to $150 per session. Out-of-network PT sessions run $120 to $200. This sits between them on purpose.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No. Colorado has direct access, so you do not need a referral to see a physical therapist. For training specifically, no referral is needed at all. That said, if you are within a few months of surgery, I will want to know your surgeon’s restrictions before we load anything.

What if I am still in physical therapy somewhere else?

That is common and usually fine, but the timing matters. If you are actively being treated elsewhere, adding supervised training can either help or muddy the water depending on where you are in the process. Bring it up in the free consultation. In some cases the Second Opinion Consult is a better first step.

What if I have almost no equipment at home?

Then we build around that. Bands, a couple of dumbbells, and bodyweight get most people a long way, especially in the first 8 weeks. I would rather write a program you can actually execute than an ideal one you cannot.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Often yes for the Movement Screen and any evaluation, since those are clinical services. General training sessions are less likely to qualify. Check with your plan administrator, and I can provide an itemized receipt either way.

How long until I see results?

Most people notice meaningful changes in confidence and symptom behavior inside 4 to 6 weeks, and measurable strength changes by 8 to 12 weeks. That is not a promise, it is what the pattern usually looks like. Your first reassessment at week 8 will tell us in numbers rather than in feelings.

What if I want to stop?

Then you stop. Monthly plans cancel with 7 days notice. Unused package sessions can be transferred to another service. I am not going to talk you into sessions you do not need, and the end goal of good training is that you eventually do not need me standing next to you.

Cash-pay, and why it works this way

Everything on this page is paid directly, not billed to insurance. That is a deliberate choice, not a workaround. It means a full hour of my attention with no prior authorization delays, no visit caps set by a third party, and no treatment decisions shaped by what a payer will reimburse. You know the cost before you walk in.

If you would rather use your insurance benefits, that is a completely reasonable choice and I can still help. I see insurance-based patients at CACC Physical Therapy in Parker, Colorado.

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept card, HSA, and FSA cards. I can provide a superbill on request if you want to submit for out-of-network reimbursement yourself, though I cannot guarantee what your plan will pay.

Ready to start, or still deciding?

The 30-minute consultation is free and carries no obligation. If a different service is the better fit, I will tell you that instead of selling you this one.
